Vice Ganda To Release Self Titled Album

  • Thursday 2 June 2011
  • Latest Philippine News Headlines

    Kathryn Bernardo Pressured About Her

  • Latest Philippine News Headlines
  • Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes are about to cross over from television to the big screen for their launching movie. The stars of the top-rating teleserye Mara Clara recently signed a two-picture contract with Star Cinema which paves the way for them to finally headline a movie. Kathryn, who plays the good character Mara in their teleserye, told reporters following the contract signing, “May dalawang movies kaming gagawin sa Star Cinema.

While she feels honored to be given the chance to play lead on the big screen, 15-year-old Kathryn admitted that she feels pressured by the responsibility to come up with a box office hit for Star Cinema. Pero at the same time kinakabahan kami kasi iba ang movie sa TV. But since Star Cinema naman ito for sure magiging maganda ‘yung project.”

Kathryn also talked about the death of AJ Perez who was supposed to be a part of this project. “Sobra talaga kaming nanghihinayang. Ito sana ‘yung first time naming makakatrabaho si AJ.

The former Goin’ Bulilit star still couldn’t believe that she is now being dubbed as an up-and-coming dramatic actress.

She then thanked the fans who religiously watch Mara Clara every night, catapulting her and Julia to stardom.

Viewers who loved the endless catfights between Kathryn and Julia on Mara Clara can still expect more clashes in their upcoming movie. But Kathryn was quick to clarify that contrary to their roles, she and Julia are best friends in real life. “From the start friends naman kami.

Coco Martin Is Judy Ann Santos New

  • Latest Philippine News Headlines
  • The stars are aligned for independent actor and prime time star Coco Martin.

In addition to his lead role in “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin,” which is hitting top ratings on the prime time block, Martin is still hitting big marks in his film career.

The actor will be the new leading man of Judy Ann Santos in her comeback movie slated to be released later this year.

Martin is overwhelmed with news of the project as he said he never thought his dream of working with the soap opera queen would come true.

“Bata pa lang ako pinapanood ko na si Ms Judy Ann... in ‘Esperanza,’ ‘Kristala,” he said.

The film boasts of a strong supporting cast as well, with the likes of Gina Pareƃ±o and Maja Salvador joining Santos and Martin.

Meanwhile, Martin is receiving nods from the country's prestigious Urian Awards yet again as he is nominated for his role in the film “Noy.”

This nomination comes after winning as Urian's Best Supporting Actor several years back for “Serbis" and being nominated in the Best Actor category for “Kinatay.”

Martin will also be awarded as Actor of the Decade at this year's Urian Awards, a recognition that caught even the actor himself by surprise.

"Since 2009, tuloy tuloy ang blessings talaga... Feeling ko nasa tamang landas ako ngayon. Gusto ko dito lang ako," he said.

Martin added that this is another feather in his cap, especially since he is relatively a newcomer in the industry.

He is wholeheartedly thankful for the support of his fans and colleagues, saying it is a great privilege to be able to continue his passion in life.

    Charlene Gonzales Jealous Of Aga

  • Latest Philippine News Headlines
  • Did the steamy love scenes of veteran actor Aga Muhlach and sultry actress Angel Locsin in the film "In The Name of Love" make actress-host Charlene Gonzales feel envious?

In an interview with Push.com.ph, the beauty queen-turned-actress vehemently denied the issue.

"No, no... From the moment I met Aga, magkaibigan na kami and ito na 'yung trabaho niya. I understand dahil pareho 'yung industriya that we go around. So sa akin, ok lang 'yun," she said.

Instead, Gonzales lauded the entire film.

"And I understand na kasama lahat 'yun sa work. It was beautifully done, very nice. I would say that it’s a masterpiece... Hindi ko sinasabi ito dahil nandito 'yung asawa ko, but it’s really one of the best movies I’ve seen," she said.

When asked for her favorite part in the film, the host of "The Buzz" revealed: “Gusto ko 'yung confrontation scene. 'Yung eksena ni Aga with his kuya and his son. Ayoko naman sabihin lahat ng mga moments kasi there's a lot of shining moments in the movie and kung sasabihin ko baka ma-spoil naman 'yung mga moviegoers."

"I’m sure you’d come out inspired and mas lalo ka maniniwala sa pag-ibig," she ended.

Abs Cbn Nets Close To Php1 Billion For

  • Latest Philippine News Headlines
  • The consolidated net income of ABS-CBN Corporation registered P976 million for the first three months of the year ending March 31, 2011.

ABS-CBN delivered consolidated revenues of P6.6 billion from advertising and consumer sales, a 15% decline compared to a year ago. Less the revenues from political advocacies and advertisement from the first quarter of 2010, consolidated revenues in the first quarter of 2011 increased by 3% year-on-year.

ABS-CBN’s advertising revenues declined 21% or P1.0 billion to reach P4.0 billion. Minus the revenues from political advocacies and advertisement in the first quarter of 2010, advertising revenues in the first quarter of 2011 increased by 10% year-on-year. This increase is attributable to the rise in total advertising minutes sold and programmed rate increase that took effect in February 2011.

Consumer sales for the first quarter of 2011 amounted to P2.5 billion, posting a 5% decrease or P147 million less from a year ago, mainly from ABS-CBN Global. ABS-CBN Global revenues declined by 15% year on year in peso terms due to the decline in subscribers and the appreciation of the Philippine peso against the US dollar. Meanwhile, Sky Cable continues to contribute positively with revenues increasing by 6% to P1.0 billion. This is mostly driven by the increased take up of its broadband service subscriptions which increased by 31% year-on-year.

Total expenses declined by P721 million or 13% year-on-year to P4.7 billion partly due to the lower cost of sales and services and general and administrative expenses (GAEX).

Net income attributable to shareholders for the first quarter of 2011 is at P976 million, inclusive of the gain on sale of Sky Cable Philippine Depositary Receipts (PDRs), a 10% decline year-on-year. Removing the effects of this one-time gain in the first quarter of 2011 and P1.40 billion revenues generated from political advocacies and political advertisement in the first quarter of 2010, net income would have increased by 12% year-on-year.

Meanwhile, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) hit P2.1 billion, a 14% decline year-on-year. Stripping the one-time gain in the first quarter of 2011 and equally shaving the P1.40 billion revenues generated from political advocacies and political advertisement in the first quarter of 2010, EBITDA would have grown by 6% year-on-year

Capital expenditure and film and program rights acquisition for the first quarter of 2011 amounted to P886 million, P400 million or 82% higher than the level of spending from previous year. These are all programmed expenditures to increase the company’s capacity to produce additional shows.

ABS-CBN maintained its national audience share and ratings leadership with prime-time audience share averaging 41% in the first quarter of 2011, going by Kantar Media National TV Ratings’ figures.

For the period January to March 2011, all six of ABS-CBN’s primetime week-day shows were in the Top 6: the Top 6: Emil Cruz Jr.’s Mara Clara, Pablo S. Gomez’s Mutya, Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin, Noah, TV Patrol and Imortal. The same trend was repeated in the week-end where ABS-CBN’s primetime week-end shows also dominated the top programs: Pilipinas Got Talent (Saturday and Sunday edition), Wansapanataym : Ulo, Kokak, Family Tree, and Buhawi Jack, Maalaala Mo Kaya…, Rated K Handa Na Ba Kayo?, and Goin’ Bulilit.

Primetime programs launched in the first quarter of 2011—Mutya and Pilipinas Got Talent—enjoyed national program ratings in the 30s, and audience share in the high 40s.

ABS-CBN Global’s overall viewer count decreased by 3% year-on-year, driven by the decline in subscriber growth in the Middle East, Europe and Japan. Double digit subscriber growth continued to be experienced in Canada, and mid-to-high single digit subscriber growth in Asia-Pacific and Australia.

ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. released five films in the first three months of this year, two more than the same period in 2010. Three of them–Ang Tanging Ina Mo Last Na To, Dalaw and Catch Me I’m in Love–topped P100 million in box office receipts, earning blockbuster status by local standards.

Sharon Cuneta Talks About Obesity On

  • Latest Philippine News Headlines
  • Sharon Cuneta finally speaks up on her own fight against obesity this Sunday (May 15) in the primer for her upcoming reality show “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition” on ABS-CBN.

In a rare TV interview, the Megastar will share the physical and emotional pains of people who are regarded by society as fat, obese, and heavy.

“Unfortunately, society judges you according to your physical appearance. It’s not really according to your abilities and your talents. Minsan kahit it’s very unfair, it’s a reality,” she explained.

But she is not the only one opening up on Sunday’s TV special, entitled “Bigating Pinoy: The Biggest Loser Primer.” To prove that obesity is a serious problem in the country that should be addressed, the primer will also show case studies featuring six “heavy” Pinoys.

The list includes seven year old child star Karl Camo of “Goin’ Bulilit.” While people find him cuddly and cute, he is also in a crucial state of child obesity. Danica, 14, has to deal with greater pressure growing up because of her weight. Twenty-two year old Alvin, on the other hand, has been rejected over and over during job applications.

There is also Lorie, 33, who can’t bear a child because of excessive fat in her body. Forty year old Rowena, meanwhile, is a mom but can’t attend her children’s graduation in fear that they will be teased by their classmates because of her.

Finally, get to meet Reinnier, who at 25 already has a memorial plan due to the health risks of his obesity.

If you ask Sharon, she believes that there is still hope for all of them to improve their lives. That is if they begin taking care of their health like her. She said, “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition” can be a source of inspiration to people like them, and even those who are perfectly fit and healthy.

“Kayang-kaya ‘yan. ‘Pag nakita niyo yung journey ng mga contestant to lose weight, I think representation din yan ng kaniya-kaniyang problemang pinagdadaanan natin, kahit hindi siya obesity,” Sharon stressed.

Find out about Filipinos’ fight against obesity and even get a sneak peek of the Biggest Loser Camp and the program’s 12 contestants in “Bigating Pinoy: The Biggest Loser Primer” this Sunday (May 15), after “Pilipinas Got Talent” on ABS-CBN.

Anne Curtis And Gina Alajar On Ancs

  • Latest Philippine News Headlines
  • ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, launches “Kinse,” a powerful collection of four to six-minute short films on human rights directed by some of the Philippines’ finest filmmakers.

A follow-up project to last year’s controversial “amBisyon2010,” “Kinse” features 15 stories that will hopefully pave the way to putting a stop to different kinds of abuses being experienced in the country.

Joining ANC’s crusade for human rights are directors Erik Matti, Carlos Siguion Reyna, Mark Meily, Auraeus Solito, Raymond Red, Jim Libiran, Jon Red, Richard Somes, Ato Bautista, Kiri Dalena, Ray Gibraltar, Raymund Amonoy, Kidlat de Guia, Nico Puertollano, and Paolo Villaluna, who all offered their time and talents pro bono for this project.

“Kinse” is also not bereft of star power with mainstream performers such as Gina Alajar and Anne Curtis acting in some of the films.

Executive producer Patricia Evangelista, who was at the helm of “amBisyon2010,” said that the films in “Kinse” will tackle a wide array of issues that include domestic violence, media harassment, extrajudicial killings, children and women’s rights, indigenous rights, and justice.

She added each filmmaker was given creative freedom and funding by ANC and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with the support of the Commission on Human Rights, so that they could pursue and fulfill their visions for “Kinse.”

In his film “Batch 2011,” Palanca-awardee Libiran will let us into the story of young men entering a “brotherhood” as a way to tell the graduates of this generation to protect democracy.

Matti, meanwhile, aims to defend the right to live freely in his opus featuring award-winning actresses Anne Curtis and Gina Alajar.

Villaluna, who co-created “amBisyon2010” with Evangelista last year, will show the story of a little boy whose life was cut short because society didn’t approve of his sexual preference.

“Kinse” is part of ANC’s year-long celebration of its 15 years of telling the nation’s stories. Evangelista said they hope that for every film in “Kinse,” “there will be one less victim whose story ANC will tell.”

ANC has also partnered with the Springfilm Foundation and The Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands, for a full length film on human rights being directed by Dutch filmmaker, Jacco Groen. The film will be released later this year.

“Kinse” will have a by-invitation theatrical premier at the Tanghalang Aurelio V. Tolentino (CCP Little Theater) on Thursday, May 19. To win invitations, join the “Kinse” contest on Twitter (@kinseanc) by sending your answers to 15 questions about film and human rights. The posters with the best answers will win two (2) tickets each. ANC will accept answers until tonight (May 16).

ANC will also air a six-part TV special on “Kinse” hosted by actress and women’s rights advocate Angel Aquino beginning Monday (May 23), 9:30pm on SkyCable ch. 27. Get to know more about the films and the directors of “Kinse” at www.kinse.tv.
