Cosim and her team has been airing exclusive reports on Manahan, as well as conducting multiple interviews with Janelle's father, Julius Manahan talking about the Ramgen slay case, her daughter's medical condition, as well as her journey to recovery.

While Mr. Manahan's live interview with Cosim and her co-anchor Erwin Tulfo on Aksyon wasn't the "exclusive" as it may have been, it was the first among the Big 3 newscasts.

DOLE Sec. Baldoz graced opening of 1st Career Fair at the Eastwood City

  • Latest Philippine News Headlines
  • Shot of Eastwood City in the Libis area of Que...
Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz has cited the private sector for its effort to create better access to job opportunities and to contribute actively to employment generation through the conduct of job fairs. Speaking at the ribbon-cutting ceremony opening the 1st Career Fair at the Eastwood City complex, the labor and employment chief said that the private sector has been the real engine of the economy in creating jobs. In her message, Baldoz encouraged jobseekers, companies and organizers of the job fair to lin up with the DOLE’s nationwide network of Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) found in local governments and schools to facilitate better job and skills matching processes and results. To facilitate hiring during job fairs, Baldoz advised jobseekers to have the self-confidence and all pertinent documents and requirements ready, adding that they should not be discouraged if found unqualified, but should instead pursue appropriate skills retooling and upgrading. Baldoz also encouraged the participating companies to hire on-the-spot (HOTS) more qualified jobseekers. At the same time, she urged jobseekers and companies to link up with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, the DOLE’s agency in charge of HRD, to avail of appropriate training to ensure that they are qualified for jobs available in the growing call center and other industries of the country. Baldoz was joined in the job fair by two executive officials of the organizers, Megaworld first vice president for business development Jericho Go, and commercial division head Mr. Kevin Tan. According to the organizers, while the career fair did not target a definite quantity of opportunities, they were pleased that more than 20 top-line companies decided to join. On top of call center jobs, opportunities from a diverse array of industries abound, including customer care, banking, digital services, information and communications technology, food service, real estate and resorts, and tourism. With JobsDB.com and The Philippine Star as co-sponsors, the more than 20 companies that participated in the fair were Acquire Asia Pacific, Concentrix-Synnex Corporation, Hinduja Global Solutions, Banco de Oro, Chinabank Corporation, Citibank, VCustomer, Canon, Dell Inc., HP, IBM, Siemens, Stream Global, Thakral One it, Yell Adworks, Coca-Cola Bottlers Phil. Inc., Emperador Distillers Inc., McDonald’s, Resorts World Manila, and also Megaworld Corporation. Following Baldoz’s message, Megaworld FVP Go thanked the Labor Secretary for her presence during the occasion signifying government’s unwavering support for jobs growth in the country’s industries. Go said that the 1st Career Fair is a hallmark event for the thriving Eastwood City, as he recalled that the booming area was built by jobs. “Eastwood City began with only some 1,000 workers,” Go said, adding that, “now it is approaching 35,000 to 40,000 workers and we are looking at the range of 50,000 productive people soon as the complex expands alongside other investments in the metropolis and the Philippines.”

• Latest Philippine News Headlines
  • Aksyon anchor Cheryl Cosim has been closely following the progress of Janelle Manahan, girlfriend of Ramgen Revilla who suffered a gunshot wound in her face following the attack on the Revilla's house late last month. Cosim and her team has been airing exclusive reports on Manahan, as well as conducting multiple interviews with Janelle's father, Julius Manahan talking about the Ramgen slay case, her daughter's medical condition, as well as her journey to recovery.

GMA NEWS' 'ORAS NA' DOCU HOSTED BY RICHARD GUTIERREZ TO AIR TONIGHT

  • Latest Philippine News Headlines
  • A thought-provoking documentary from the same News and Public Affairs team that brought you Signos, Wildlife for Sale and the multi-awarded Planet Philippines, ORAS NA is a documentary that seeks to find the answers to some of the most important questions of our time. Is it possible that everything could run out? And how much time do we really have to avert the deadlines?

    PRESS RELEASE FROM GMA-7:
Impossible scenarios or glimpses into the near future? This year, GMA News and Public Affairs embarks on its biggest environmental project.

ORAS NA, hosted by Richard Gutierrez, takes us to places where there is significant visual evidence to suggest that time may indeed be running out for the resources that provide our most basic needs.

An ambitious production that took many months in the making, ORAS NA captures potential clues to what experts believe are crucial deadlines of our generation, and illustrates how each passing moment of human existence can either lead to the planet’s degradation or to its conservation.

Today, only 8% of the country’s original forest cover remains untouched. At the current rate of deforestation, it is not surprising that by the year 2025, local experts say that the country’s old growth forests would be wiped out, twenty five years ahead of the worldwide deadline of 2050.

In Surigao del Sur, logging continues despite a moratorium declared in February of this year. An old lauan tree, about 30 feet tall, took decades to grow. But actual footage reveals that the same tree can be cut down by a chainsaw in mere minutes.

Freshwater is another valuable yet diminishing resource. By 2025, it is feared that only a fraction of the current clean water supply will be available to each individual. And while the 2025 deadline may seem distant to some, there are communities today that already know what it is like to thirst after this precious human need.

In Bohol, time lapse cameras capture a community’s hard work as they manually dig a well which will serve as their town’s reservoir. While it takes the villagers five days to break ground with water, up to 50 million liters of water are wasted every day in Metro Manila households alone.

The journal Science published a study indicating that by 2050, there will be a fisheries collapse due to over harvesting and destructive fishing. Yet even today, forty years ahead of that deadline, there are places in the country that are already feeling the crunch.

General Santos City, once the fourth largest tuna exporter in the world, faces a tuna crisis. Several tuna plants that supply canneries were closed down due to the dwindling fish population.

Many fishermen no longer catch tuna from Philippine seas but from farther boundaries such as Indonesia. And even in Navotas, home to the largest fish port in the country, fishermen and traders admit that the catch is growing smaller and smaller.

Mug Shots of Gloria Arroyo Surface on the Internet Authentic

  • Latest Philippine News Headlines
  • Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, former president and representative of Pampanga, was arrested at St. Luke's Medical Center in Taguig City last November 18, 2011 and charged with electoral sabotage, a non-bailable offense.

The warrant of arrest was issued by Judge Jesus Mupas of the Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 112 against the former president following the filing of electoral sabotage charges by the Commission on Elections.

Arroyo was formally booked last Saturday on electoral sabotage charges, PhilStar reported. Her mugshots and fingerprints were taken, but the police refused to release them to the public.

Earlier this day or late evening yesterday, mugshots of former president Gloria Arroyo circulated on the internet, social networks, and even on the newspapers.

A police official today confirmed that the mugshots of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo circulating on the Internet are authentic.

Senior Superintendent James Bucayu, acting chief of the Southern Police District (SPD), said that their investigator confirmed to him that the mugshots provided to them by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and those posted by www.mugshots.com are the same, Philstar said. He denied that mugshots leaked from the SPD. He added that he has ordered an investigation into the mugshots' distribution in the Internet.

According to clerk of court Joel Peliciano, Arroyo's camp requested not to release Gloria's mugshots to the public. "Any party wanting to see the photos must file an appropriate court pleading," he said.
