JM De Guzman Topbills ‘Angelito Batang Ama’

  • JM De Guzman Topbills ‘Angelito Batang Ama’

Dramatic young actor JM De Guzman formally joins the roster of sought after Kapamilya leading men as he topbills ABS-CBN’s newest afternoon drama “Angelito: Batang Ama” premiering this Monday, November 14, in Kapamilya Gold.

JM takes on his biggest role to date as young dad Angelito who will face the responsibilities and challenges of parenthood at an early age.

What’s new and interesting about this show is that the perspective of the young father will be shown to the audience. Usually, the struggles of a young mother are being featured on programs or films so now it’s time for the viewers to open their minds and see the other side of this social issue,” said JM.

Joining JM in the cast of “Angelito: Batang Ama” are Charee Pineda, Kaye Abad, Tom Rodriguez, Ina Feleo, Matt Evans, Felix Roco, Sam Concepcion, Devon Seron, Jason Francisco, Carl John Barrameda, Kyra Custodio, Bianca Casado, Sue Anna Ramirez, Eliza Pineda, Mariel Pamintuan, Lemuel Pelayo, Benj de Guzman, Eslove Briones, Maichel Flores, Joshen Bernardo, and Bea Basa. Veteran actors Ms. Elizabeth Oropesa, Al Tantay, and Ms. Snooky Serna also return to television via this soap.

First seen as Mike in “PHR presents Midnight Phantom,” JM was instantly given follow up projects such as “PHR presents Alyna” and “Martha Cecilia’s Kristine” with his undeniable and simply noticeable acting prowess.

His name further created a mark when he was among the cast members of the hit romantic-comedy”My Amnesia Girl” starring John Lloyd Cruz and Toni Gonzaga. The name JM De Guzman was catapulted to big screen stardom when Cinemalaya movie ”Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank,” where he portrayed lead, raked earnings at the box office and is now vying for a spot to be an official Oscar nominee.

Some may think JM’s rise to fame is quite fast compared to others but for the dramatic actor, it’s just about time that he gets this big break.

I’ve been preparing myself to take on big projects like ’Angelito: Batang Ama.’ I stopped showbiz when I was young to study Theater Arts in the University of the Philippines where I learned more about the craft that I love. That is why I can say I am ready and I am equipped to face lead roles,” explained JM who used to be one of the ”Ang TV” kids.

Aside from acting on television, JM is also known as a theater actor and just recently, he was formally launched as a recording artist after releasing his self-titled album.

Don’t miss the premiere of “Angelito Batang Ama” this Monday (Nov 14), 3:30 PM after “Helena’s Promise” on ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Gold. Follow the official “Angelito Batang Ama” accounts on Twitter (http://twitter.com/batang_ama), Facebook (www.facebook.com/AngelitoBatangAma), and YouTube (www.youtube.com/AngelitoBatangAma). PRESS RELEASE FROM ABS-CBN:
“Patrol ng Pilipino” treats its viewers on Tuesday (November 8 ) with a special film-documentary of Ryan Chua directed by Cannes Best Director Dante Brillante Mendoza as part of the program’s first anniversary celebration.

Together with Direk Dante, Ryan endured six hours of land travel, eight hours of trekking two mountains and braved the steep and slippery trails of Singnapan Basin in Rizal, Palawan to visit the dwelling place of Tau’t Bato.

“Aside from the eight-hour trek in the jungles of Palawan, spending days in Singnapan was also was a challenge. There’s no potable water and electricity, and the place is known to be malaria-endemic,” said Ryan.

In the documentary, Ryan tackles the how the tribesmen continue to preserve their rich culture and how they survive the inaccessibility of essential government services concerning health, livelihood and education. He shared, “It may be surprising for some viewers that in this modern age, some indigenous groups like the Tau’t Bato are still able to strengthen their native identity. That’s why it’s a challenge for the government to extend its services to these tribesmen while ensuring the conservation of their ethnic heritage.”

Ryan shared that apart from the enriching cultural experience, what made his report more memorable was the rare opportunity of working with Direk Dante. “I felt that I was not only working with him. I was learning from him. Doing this documentary with Direk Dante made me realize that he’s more than just a multi-awarded filmmaker: He’s a principled storyteller who’s deeply in love with reality, and with telling things as they are,” he said.

Despite his three-year stint as reporter in ABS-CBN, Ryan admitted that he learned the real value of storytelling in journalism. He shared, “He always stressed the importance of telling the story naturally–from the way I interview and deliver my spiels to writing the script and voicing it.”

“For him, the story has to be real, raw, and sincere to be effective. I have known these principles before, but working with a man who lives up to them was very enlightening for a beginner like me,” he continued.

Since he became part of “Patrol ng Pilipino,” Ryan has made a number of memorable documentaries for the program namely “Kuliglig in the City,” “Mga Boses ng Bayan?” “Panganib sa Ibayong Dagat,” “Simbahang Ladlad,” “Section Kuto,” “Biyaheng Bangketa,” and “Huling Talumpati.” He has tackled timely issues like the story on the consequences of the unrest in Libya for overseas Filipino workers who were forced to return home, a much talked about church for gays and lesbians, and controversial resignation of Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri amid allegations that he benefited from fraud during the 2007 elections.

Join Ryan and Direk Dante as they take an in-depth look at the lives of the Tau’t Bato in the special anniversary episode of the 20th KBP Golden Dove Awards’ Best Public Affairs Program, “Patrol ng Pilipino.” The one-year old program was also given a special citation for Best News Magazine in the 33rd Catholic Mass Media Awards and was recently named nominee as Outstanding News Magazine Program in the 2011 Golden Screen TV Awards.

Patrol ng Pilipino airs tonight at 9:15 pm on DZMM TeleRadyo Sky Cable Channel 26 and ABS-CBN Channel 2 right after Bandila.

NatGeo Experts Say Lolong is World's Largest Crocodile

  • Latest Philippine News Headlines
  • A Philippine crocodile called "Lolong" has been confirmed on Wednesday the biggest in captivity by the National Geographic Channel representatives led by Dr. Adam Britton. According to the “Balita Pilipinas" newscast, the NatGeo team declared that the giant crocodile measured at 21 feet and 1 inch.

Weighing more than a ton, Lolong was captured late Saturday night, September 3, along a creek in Bunawan township in Agusan del Sur.

Named after a local common name, the Bunawan crocodile will be recommended by Dr. Britton to Guinness World Records the recognition of Lolong as the world’s biggest saltwater crocodile, “Balita Pilipinas" said. The newscast said Guinness representatives will no longer fly to the Philippines to measure Lolong and will depend instead on the results of Britton’s measurement.

The celebrity crocodile earned nearly half-a-million pesos from donations, entrance, and parking fees at the Bunawan Eco-Park and Research Center in Barangay Consuelo as of Oct. 26, said Bunawan town mayor Edwin Elorde.

It was reported before that Lolong may have eaten a farmer who went missing in July, along with several water buffaloes in the southern town of Bunawan, crocodile hunter Rollie Sumiller said.

A crocodile also bit off the head of a 12-year-old girl in Bunawan in 2009, according to the environment ministry.

Azkals Football Matches in 26th SEA Games Air Live Only on Studio 23

  • Tuesday, 8 November 2011
  • Latest Philippine News Headlines
  • Azkals Football Matches in 26th SEA Games Air Live Only on Studio 23

The Philippine Azkals fever lives on, as its U-23 team - whose members are all under 23 years old - gears up for the much-awaited 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Indonesia.

Number “23” seems to be the lucky number for the followers of Azkals U-23, as Studio 23 will be the only SEA Games carrier in the Philippines to air all the football matches live.

After the action-packed initial game with group powerhouse Vietnam, the Azkals team will go against SEA Games’ youngest member Timor Leste on November 7, Monday at 4:30 p.m.

For this preliminary bout, the Azkals have a good chance of winning, as Timor Leste’s football team has not achieved any international milestones yet since its debut in the AFC Cup in 2004. The team also tried competing in the ASEAN Football Federation Championship in 2004 as an invited member, but it finished last place - an implication that the team still has a long way to go before they can penetrate a more prestigious arena.

But the Azkals must still not relax as they will also face the equally fierce Laos football team. Their match will air live on November 11, Friday, 4:30 p.m., prior to the Opening Ceremonies which will have the country’s very own Lea Salonga in a production number with Indonesia’s top singer and actress Agnes Monica and Malaysian Idol Jacklyn Victor.

Laos football team coach Hans-Peter Schaller is determined to win in the SEA Games. The Austrian coach wants to outdo his team’s achievement when it finished fourth in the 25th SEA Games.

Another must-see Azkals game is against Myanmar on November 13, Monday, 4:30 p.m. Myanmar boasts of its nine new members. Will they be able to beat the passion-driven will of the Azkals to win?

Filipinos’ “bayanihan” trait with neighbors might not work this time, as the Azkals try to beat abutting country Brunei in match that will also be aired live on November 15, Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.

After a 10-year-absence, Brunei makes a return to the Under-23 football competition. The team’s head coach was happy to have been drawn in Group B alongside Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, the Philippines and Timor Leste.

Meanwhile, the 20-man Azkals U-23 is led by Jason De Jong, the midfielder from the senior Azkals. Footballers who played in the recently held Long Teng Cup in Taiwan namely midfielders Jeff Christiaens and Matthew Hartmann ; defenders; Carlos Alberto De Murga, Neckson Leonora and Raymark Fernandez, and goalkeeper Roland Muller also joined the team, together with UAAP standouts OJ Clarino of University of Sto. Tomas and striker Jinggoy Valmayor of University of the Philippines.

Catch all these football action live on Studio 23.

Genelyn Magsaysay Asks Public Not to Prejudge RJ Bautista and Ramona Bautista

  • Genelyn Magsaysay Asks Public Not to Prejudge RJ Bautista and Ramona Bautista

Genelyn Magsaysay, mother of Ramon Joseph “RJ” Bautista and Ramona Bautista - the two primary suspects in the murder of her eldest son Ram Revilla, asks the public not to prejudge them.

RJ and Ramona have been tagged by the authorities as the masterminds behind the murder of their elder brother Ram and his girlfriend Janelle Manahan who luckily survived the massacre.

Authorities say the siblings were motivated by financial matters, and resented Ram for supposedly mishandling and being less than transparent about their monthly allowances, which some reports place at P1 million per month.

In this concern, Magsaysay asked for the public’s sympathy. She said she and her family have been forced to move around in recent days, afraid for their security. “We need quiet and peace,” she said, but added: “But because people keep insisting that two members of our family are guilty – Ramona and Joseph – we want to achieve peace and justice for our family.”

Magsaysay also asked the public for help in solving the murder of Ram and not prejudge RJ and Ramona.

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz has cited the private sector for its effort to create better access to job opportunities and to contribute actively to employment generation through the conduct of job fairs. Speaking at the ribbon-cutting ceremony opening the 1st Career Fair at the Eastwood City complex, the labor and employment chief said that the private sector has been the real engine of the economy in creating jobs. In her message, Baldoz encouraged jobseekers, companies and organizers of the job fair to lin up with the DOLE’s nationwide network of Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) found in local governments and schools to facilitate better job and skills matching processes and results. To facilitate hiring during job fairs, Baldoz advised jobseekers to have the self-confidence and all pertinent documents and requirements ready, adding that they should not be discouraged if found unqualified, but should instead pursue appropriate skills retooling and upgrading. Baldoz also encouraged the participating companies to hire on-the-spot (HOTS) more qualified jobseekers. At the same time, she urged jobseekers and companies to link up with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, the DOLE’s agency in charge of HRD, to avail of appropriate training to ensure that they are qualified for jobs available in the growing call center and other industries of the country. Baldoz was joined in the job fair by two executive officials of the organizers, Megaworld first vice president for business development Jericho Go, and commercial division head Mr. Kevin Tan. According to the organizers, while the career fair did not target a definite quantity of opportunities, they were pleased that more than 20 top-line companies decided to join. On top of call center jobs, opportunities from a diverse array of industries abound, including customer care, banking, digital services, information and communications technology, food service, real estate and resorts, and tourism. With JobsDB.com and The Philippine Star as co-sponsors, the more than 20 companies that participated in the fair were Acquire Asia Pacific, Concentrix-Synnex Corporation, Hinduja Global Solutions, Banco de Oro, Chinabank Corporation, Citibank, VCustomer, Canon, Dell Inc., HP, IBM, Siemens, Stream Global, Thakral One it, Yell Adworks, Coca-Cola Bottlers Phil. • Watch U-23 Azkals vs Timor Leste live stream online. The Philippine Under-23 Azkals team is set to achieve first win against Timor Leste on Monday, November 7, 2011, in order to stay alive in their hunt for a football medal at the 26th Southeast Asian Games.

Kickoff is at 5 p.m. (4 p.m. in Manila) at the Lebak Bulus Stadium and will be telecast live on Studio 23 and AKTV starting from 4:30 PM local time.

According to ABS-CBN News, "the U23 Azkals hope the two full days of rest have revitalized the Euro-based players like Roland Muller, Manny Ott, and Jeffrey Christiaens who joined the team two days prior to the Vietnam match."

"The problem with us in the game against Vietnam was the fact that we had several players who were still jet-lagged from their long flight (from Europe) and that was the reason why they could not play at the optimum level," PH coach Michael Weiss said in the post-match press conference.

Live stream links of this game math will be provided here minutes prior to kick-off time at 4:00 p.m. Better bookmark, share, tweet, or like this post to receive updates.

  • Ramona Bautista Leaves for Hong Kong; Sen. Bong Revilla Reacts "Sign of guilt!"

Ramona Bautista, sister and one of the primary suspects in the murder of her brother Ram Bautista, left for Hong Kong at 7:55 p.m. on Friday, November 4, via Cathay Pacific economy class.

But hours before she left (or fleed), Ramona admitted with Gigi Grande of ABS-CBN cable news channel ANC that she was not abducted by her brother's killers but still denied she helped plan the gruesome murder of her brother.

Ramona's sudden escape in the Philippines and her newest version of what happened during that night of the incident shocked the Revilla clan particularly Senator Bong Revilla Jr. who expressed his dismay on his sister's decision to flee out of the county.

In an interview with Julius Babao on Bandila, the Senator confirmed his worst suspicions, "Sign of guilt. Kung ano iniisip nyo 'yun na rin iniisip ko."

    PRESS RELEASE FROM ABS-CBN:
ABS-CBN news reporter Jeff Canoy gets his firsthand experience with the paranormal in tomorrow’s edition of the award-winning documentary “Patrol ng Pilipino,” wherein he explores the Filipinos’ fondness for ghost stories, cultural practices in remembering the dead, and brings in paranormal experts to help a grieving Mom communicate with her four-year old girl who was raped and killed early this year.

“Doing the documentary is an eye-opener for me and the production team. We are going to show the different, if not opposing, perspectives of believers and non-believers,” said Jeff, who is nominated for Outstanding News Magazine Program host at the 2011 Golden Screen TV Awards.

While the mother of a rape victim was narrating how her slain child has been making her presence felt at their home, Jeff and his production team felt an uncanny presence as the windows in the house started to open and close.

In tomorrow’s episode (Nov 1), Jeff talks to a grandfather who has been waiting and wanting to feel the presence of his departed wife, brings paranormal experts to a place that is believed to be a dumping site of slain victims once to check if there are wandering spirits, and traces the country’s rich history in examining Filipinos’ norms, customs, and beliefs about the dead and how they pay respect to their departed loved ones.

Jeff will examine all angles through interviews with paranormal experts, Church leaders, sociologists, historians, and scientists for “Patrol ng Piliino,” a contender for Outstanding News Magazine Program in the 2011 Golden Screen TV Awards. The program won Best TV Public Affairs Program at the 20th KBP Golden Dove Awards and received a Special Citation for Best News Magazine Program at the 33rd Catholic Mass Media Awards.

Patrol ng Pilipino airs tonight after Bandila on ABS-CBN or catch it earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo at 9:15 pm.

Pinoy Big Brother Reveals Slum-Inspired House and New Housemates

  • Monday, 31 October 2011
  • Latest Philippine News Headlines

  • The 13 official housemates of “Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited” were finally revealed on Saturday night, October 29, but the biggest shock was the new look of the Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) house.

Completely different from previous seasons, the housemates entered a PBB house reminiscent of slum settlements. According to Kuya, they will have to live like the 15 million Filipinos living in shanties and in very poor conditions.

There is Jaz Manabat, the Sensual Siren of QC, a mesmerizing model who has a boyfriend of five years, and Slater Young, the Hotshot Engineer of Cebu, a privileged civil engineer who works for his father and hopes to become mature inside the PBB house.

The Captain’s Daughter of QC, Tin Patrimonio, the home-schooled daughter of basketball superstar Alvin Patrimonio, has yet to learn how to mingle well with other people. There is the Bay Diskarte of Ormoc, Kigoy Abarico, who ran away from his family and lived most of his life on the streets, and the Sales Lakay of Pangasinan, Roy Gamboa, a direct seller who struggled to provide a comfortable for his family.

Joining them are Luz McMclinton, the Mom of Steel of Muntinlupa, the struggling but wacky Pamu Pamorada, the Kitikiti Kid of Batangas, fisherman Joseph, the Promdihirang Tisoy of Marinduque, and tattoo artist Divine Maitland-Smith, the Darling Dude of Cebu and Kuya’s first openly lesbian housemate.

The Stunning Sweetheart of Olongapo, Kim De Guzman, hopes to find and get to know his biological father, while the Hopeless Romantic of Gensan, Paco Evangelista, wants to start anew after living through his life’s hardest challenges.

Meanwhile, Seichang Ushimi, the Pinoy Anime of Japan and Kevin Fowler, the Dreamboy of California, both born and raised in other countries, would like to reconnect with their Filipino roots by joining the reality show.

Aside from the 13 official housemates, 30 “reserved” housemates also graced last night’s “PBB Unlimited: The Big Fiesta” in which a lucky Carlo Romero, a retail sales consultant from Chicago, was given the chance to enter the house when his number was drawn in a lottery.

Carlo will have to accomplish four tasks this week so he can stay in the house and be an official housemate.

Meanwhile, this season’s guaranteed unlimited experience set off last night when Paco, Slater, and Luz were asked to go inside the confession room and choose which basic necessity they would want to have an unlimited supply of, but with corresponding consequences: water, food, or clothes.

Don’t miss the exciting developments in “Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited” with Toni Gonzaga and Bianca Gonzales weeknights after “Nasaan Ka, Elisa?” and Robi Domingo in “PBB Unlimited Updates” during “Maria La Del Barrio” and “100 Days to Heaven” on ABS-CBN.

Continue watching “PBB Unlimited: The Audition Stories,” 4 p.m. on Kapamilya Gold and get to know more about the housemates by visiting pinoybigbrother.com. For the program’s updates, follow his Secretary on Twitter at @OfficialPBB4 or subscribe to www.facebook.com/OfficialPinoyBigBrother.

  • Shot of Eastwood City in the Libis area of Que...
Inc., Emperador Distillers Inc., McDonald’s, Resorts World Manila, and also Megaworld Corporation. Following Baldoz’s message, Megaworld FVP Go thanked the Labor Secretary for her presence during the occasion signifying government’s unwavering support for jobs growth in the country’s industries. Go said that the 1st Career Fair is a hallmark event for the thriving Eastwood City, as he recalled that the booming area was built by jobs. “Eastwood City began with only some 1,000 workers,” Go said, adding that, “now it is approaching 35,000 to 40,000 workers and we are looking at the range of 50,000 productive people soon as the complex expands alongside other investments in the metropolis and the Philippines.”
