Robin Lim, Fil-Am, among Top 10 CNN Heroes 2011

  • Throughout the year, CNN profiles inspiring individuals around the world for their CNN Heroes series. Now, the news channel has announced the Top 10 Heroes of 2011.

    Robin Lim, a Filipino-American midwife, has been recently nominated by the CNN Blue Ribbon Panel as one of the top ten finalists for CNN Heroes for 2011. Lim and company were credited for providing free maternal healthcare to thousands of poor women in Indonesia.

    According to CNN, "since 2003, Robin Lim and her team have helped thousands of low-income women have a healthy birthing experience."

    The list also includes Amy Stokes, a New York resident who bring the effect of caring adults living elsewhere into the lives of South African children to learn survival, language and computer skills that help prepare them for their future in a global marketplace and Elena Durón Miranda who founded “P.E.T.I.S.O.S.” (Prevention and Eradication of Child Labor) to get children out of the garbage dump and into school, among others.

    Each of the Top 10 CNN Heroes 2011 will receive a $50,000 grant and one of the honorees, as voted by fans across the globe, will be named the “CNN Hero of the Year”,

    Viewers and supporters can vote for their favorite "hero" to receive additional $250,000 grant to further aid their cause. Polls can be found at cnn.com/heroes and will run through Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Midnight PT.

    CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute will air LIVE on CNN at 8:00 PM ET, on Sunday, December 11, 2011. Hosted by Anderson Cooper at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute will honor individuals who are making extraordinary contributions to help improve the lives of others.
